2009 Baldrich Falcons Summary
The Baldrich Falcons were formed as the Baldrich Mustangs in the
late 80s by Carlos Peniza, and their dominance included over 6 championships in
the 1990s. The Mustangs have since changed their name to the Falcons (all of
Baldrichs' football teams have beared the name Falcons since 1993), and are in
place to win their 3rd championship in 9 years if they can knock off the
undefeated Trojans. The 2009 version of this team in particular is rare, since
there is no head coach and the team is led by key player-coaches. Among
them are quarterback Guillermo Abril, who calls the plays on offense, while
player-coaches Arturo Brito, Rick Nines, and Jose Santaella call the plays on
defense. Other players to be noted are wide receiver Roberto Moyano, free safety
Stephen Ellis, offensive linemen Rene Jean and Sebastián Cambó, and defensive nosetackle
Freddie Figueroa.
The 2009 Falcons boasted a 7-1 record and last Sunday, May 17th, in the
semifinal game, came back from being down 12-0 in the first quarter against the
Bayamon Wolfpack to beat them by the score of 20-12.
